Vintage orange meisen kimono with an overall flower design. The orange base is decorated with an almost monochrome komon (repeated) design of white flowers and black and gray leaves with small yellow accents. Based on the leaves the flowers are likely chrysanthemum (kiku). The design is applied to both the warp and the weft (heiyo gasuri). The lining is in red cotton and a brown (probably) synthetic fabric.

Meisen refers to a weaving/production technique where the design is transferred to the threads using stencils before weaving. This technique optimized the production process and allowed to create affordable kimonos with colorful and complex designs. Meisen became popular in the early twentieth century. Although the designs are stencil applied they keep the distinctive feel of kasuri (ikat) woven splash patterns. In general Meisen kimono look more modern as a result of the bold designs and colors.
