Vintage silk Meisen kimono with floral design. The base color is beige with red, green, and brown floral accents. The overall impression is that of autumn leaves. The hem of the hakkake (lining) is dyed in a complementing shaded red color.

Condition: collectible
The kimono is in good condition for its age, but the cream/beige base color is discolored, and there are small stains. Although there are discolorations it is still a very beautiful display piece.

Meisen refers to a weaving/production technique where the design is transferred to the threads using stencils before weaving. This technique optimized the production process and allowed to create affordable kimonos with colorful and complex designs. Meisen became popular in the early twentieth century. Although the designs are stencil applied they keep the distinctive feel of kasuri (ikat) woven splash patterns. In general Meisen kimono look more modern as a result of the bold designs and colors.
