Vintage light green silk iro-tomesode kimono with a motif of cranes and pine (167.5 cm)
SOLD
Light green silk iro-tomesode with a tobi-tsuru (flying cranes) and matsu (pine) design on flowing water. The kimono features stylized (outlined) flying cranes and pine trees in different shades of gold on top of a stylized fast-flowing stream. This type of stylized swirling water is called korin-mizu. The design is bordered at the hem with cloud (or water spray) shaped gold speckling and some of the crane designs are accented by a gold embroidered outline (koma-nui). The base is a soft draping silk with a very fine woven texture that gives it a nice subtle shimmer. The lower lining (hakkake) is in matching light green with a complementing design on the left okumi. Instead of snap buttons the kimono uses strings to close the eri (it is common to use strings instead of buttons for higher quality of more formal kimono). There is a single maru-ni-kikyou kamon (family crest) on the center back.
