Vintage Japanese pink and white bokashi (gradation) silk obiage/scarf with floral and stripes shibori (tie-dye) design in a ro silk (gauze) summer fabric. The floral accents look like little three-leaved branches. There are darker pink accents at the ends made using a stitch and gather shibori (tie-dye) technique. The unstretched shibori gives the fabric a crimped look.

An obiage is a long piece of fabric (sash) that is used to keep the obi-makura (pillow) in place when tying an obi with an otaiko musubi (knot). The obiage is worn tucked into the obi but it stays (slightly) visible. Since the obiage is visible at the top of the obi, it plays a part in color coordinating the kimono, obi and, obijime.
Obiage fabric, in general, is light and the style can vary from very basic plain silk to elaborate designs with shibori (tie-dye) elements.
An obiage can be worn as a scarf without a problem.
